Winnipeg Blizzard [MB] (1-0) took care of the Queen City Kings [SK] (0-1) by the score of 8-6. The Kings' Ryan McDonald led scoring with 3 goals and 2 assists in a losing cause.

In the nightcap, host Hamilton Mac-Klean Bengals (1-0) edged the Victoria Shamrocks [BC] (0-2) in overtime 10-9. Sawyer English notched the game winner short-handed at 9:44. The Shamrocks' Dane Kinney led scoring with 2 goals and 3 assists.
