The Calgary Shamrocks Lacrosse Club has had a long and proud history in the city and was the first Calgary team in the five-team Alberta league in 1971.The Shamrocks represented the city well, winning the provincial championship and a silver medal in the very first Founders Cup in 1972. Since then, the team has won three Founders Cup national championship medals including Gold in 2019. Through the years, the Shamrocks have enjoyed great success and we continue to build on this foundation of competitive play and positive, inclusive culture that our alumni created a half-century ago.
Today’s Calgary Shamrocks Lacrosse Club is more than just a team — it is a community. As such, we take seriously our responsibility to not only represent Alberta lacrosse on the floor but to also grow the sport and support the community around us while we do it. The organization has a strong Community Outreach program that allows the players to give back within the sport through coaching and skill sessions and beyond lacrosse as we support such incredible organizations as the Ronald McDonald House, KidSport and the Calgary Food Bank.
This year we have partnered with the Tsuut’ina Nation to host Founders Cup and we are establishing Seven Chiefs Sportsplex as our home arena. While there, we are looking forward to forging a lasting relationship with this community by holding lacrosse camps for school children to introduce them to the game that evolved from First Nations people.
To us, lacrosse is more than wins and losses: it’s about character and community. We are stewards of the game and responsible citizens of the world, and we aim to leave a positive impact on both as Calgary Shamrocks.
We are excited to welcome the best lacrosse players from across the country to Calgary as we host this year's Founders Cup tournament.
